A hand-mixed (e.g. screened) composite of potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulphur in black powder ratios is referred to as Green mix. The name is said to come from the fact that this poorly integrated mix is actually greenish-grey in color.
Green mix actually is the name for an intermediate product in black powder manufacture i.e. the terms black powder (gunpowder) and green mix are not interchangeable. Green mix also serves well as a prime where the intimate integration of gunpowder is not necessarily required.
